In the country, the stories are told,
about the existence of The Prayer Band,
from the leaders of old.
Religion was spoken as an instruction of no choice.
Attending church was not an option,
no need to argue, you didn't have a voice.
The community church would be packed,
with children from town.
The elderly would sing and worship.
You could almost feel the joy they had found.
When someone was sick, sad, or hurt,
they agreed that church services weren't enough.
Just pick up your phone and place that call.
We can reach those in prayer,
it's a talk of hope,
of strength and of music unheard,
when they would begin their phone tag,
creating support on the Prayer Band.
If you think this jargon isn't real,
ask someone who participated and enjoyed.
This tool to help others believe.
Others who have witnessed this,
can tell you it's not just a term,
that you begin to miss,
It was actions of effective bliss.
I heard the words, "Prayer Band", growing up in a Pentecostal Holiness religion daily. I can not say that I always agreed but I will always appreciate the efforts of mustard seeds that humanity uses to provoke hope, unity and community:) My grandmother was the leader of my "Prayer Band"~
