“No Steven, I do not love you” Beth protested as she became angry. “You killed what love I ever had for you the night I caught you and Karen together. So face it, pal. It’s over.”
“It’s not over until I say that it’s over” Steven shouted. Once I get that stupid redskin and that snotty nosed brat out of the way you’ll see. You’ll come crawling to me begging me to take you back. Then maybe, if you’re nice enough to me I might let that other redskin live a little longer” he said with a hideous laugh that sickened Beth.
No longer able to stand Steven’s sickening remarks Beth slammed down the phone, crying out hysterically, “I hate you Steven! I hate you!” as a warm, loving arms embraced her. Falling into David’s embrace as he knelt before her, Beth sought the comfort she knew she would find in that man’s arms. Burying hr head into this shoulder her sobs tear at David’s heart.
Gently pulling her to her feet, David swept her up into his arms. “Shhhhhh! It’s alright sweetheart” he whispered in a choked voice. With her in his arms he sat down on the sofa cradling her close. Kissing her cheek, he was wishing with his whole heart that he love all her pain away.
Burrowing herself deeply into David’s loving embrace, Beth knew that she should not be in this man’s arms. Yet, to be held by this man this way felt so very right as once again her heart had to question how she could love her husband so much that it hurt, but yet go so readily into David’s arms.
She knew that she was breaking David’s very heart but at that particular moment she needed him and the comfort she always found in his embrace. David deserved more than a forbidden love with her. Still, that was all that she would ever be able to give him. He would never know the pleasure of making love to her and she, in turn, would never know what it would be like to lay in his arms and love the night away.
Finally, as her tears subsided David reluctantly allowed Beth to remove herself from his embrace. “Oh Cherokee, why do I continue to allow you to torture yourself like this?” she cried sadly, feeling guilty for the pain she knew David was suffering at that moment.
“Hey, you needed me and nothing else matters” David replied softly. “I know where I stand with you, sweetheart. But that doesn’t stop me from loving you. Nothing can ever do that.”
“But you deserve better, David” Beth argued in a low voice. “You are a very special man in my life who I love dearly. But you deserve to have a special love in your life that can be only yours. You don’t deserve a forbidden love.”
Hey kiddo, that is my problem, not yours” David replied, kissing her hands. “So just let it go, okay! Now, what did that creep say to you that upset you so?” he asked, changing the subject for the good of them both.
