“THE OLD SOLDIER”
By: Patricia A. Turner
Battle weary and burden down, a lonely old soldier staggers to the ground. Spent from the battle long and hard, inside him his soul is forever scarred. Pitched head long before the enemy’s charge, across the enemy lines he does barge. Wielding his weapon like a mighty sword, his sacrifices here brings little reward. Fighting every inch of the way, he is left to wonder if his defeat will come this day. Weathering attacks from every side, upon the winds of war the old soldier does ride. Brought down by the enemy’s blow, to his enemy he refuses to surrender control. So, rising back upon his feet amid the battle’s worse heat, the enemy he does put to flight as onward he continues to fight. Battle hardened by years of war, many victories that old soldier does score, as he sets his eyes ever forward, he marches on as a warrior in the army of the Lord.
